Trap Shooting Overview
Trap shooting is a thrilling shotgun sport that tests a shooter’s precision and reflexes. In this game, clay targets are launched from a concealed house positioned at ground level in front of the shooter. As the targets soar away at varying angles, the shooter must react swiftly and accurately to break each one mid-flight. The unpredictability of the target’s trajectory adds an exciting layer of challenge, making trap shooting a favorite among shotgun enthusiasts.
Skeet Shooting Explained
Skeet shooting, in contrast, is a dynamic, close-range shotgun sport designed to simulate the flight patterns of birds. With a semi-circular field layout, shooters face targets launched from two opposing traps—one high and one low—creating a variety of angles and crossing shots. The most demanding shot occurs at station 4, where the shooter is positioned perpendicular to the flight path of the target, making it a true test of timing and accuracy. Here, shooters engage targets at a distance of around 20 yards, making it a great discipline for sharpening reflexes and developing fine-tuned shooting skills.
National Sporting Clay (NSCA) Events:
Test Your Skills: ASC has registered NSCA shooting events each month. Details are always available iclays.com. Shooters can register on the iclays Tournament website, or at ASC the day of the event.

Wednesday – Friday: 10 am – 6 pm
- Last round of Self pull goes out at 5:00 pm
- Last round of 50, Trap, Skeet & 5-stand out at 5:30 pm
- Off the course & Fields by 6:00 pm
November – March: 4:30pm Closing Time

Shooters must purchase targets from Trap and skeet pro shop. Bringing your own targets is not allowed because ASC uses a specific type of targets.

Ammunition Specifications: When it comes to ammunition, safety and precision are paramount. Shooters are encouraged to use shotshells designed for target or small game hunting like dove or quail loads. To ensure the safety of participants and prevent damage to facilities, only shells with a maximum shot size of 7 ½ lead or #7 steel are permitted. Likewise, 3-inch shells are prohibited due to their increased shot fall. Although steel shot was traditionally avoided for its larger shot sizes and ricochet potential, modern advancements have led to the development of steel shotshells specifically crafted for target shooting. As a result, these #7 or smaller steel loads are now approved for use, providing shooters with a safer and more versatile option on the range.
